by William Shakespeare
Love, seduction, denial, betrayal, honor, violence, sacrifice, deception, death. All these levels of human complexity are experienced in this play of two ill-fated lovers, Romeo and Juliet. Shakespeare's most famous work is performed against a minimalist backdrop for a compelling dramatic presentation of this misadventure soiled by an ancient grudge in fair Verona. Two households, both alike in dignity, ignited and fueled an anger and bitterness for reasons unknown and insignificant. The Capulets and Montagues tried to deny the true love of their children which led to their untimely deaths, a most desperate act to be together. Their tragic love story will be the two hours' traffic on the Maryland Ensemble Theatre's stage.
