Our volunteers have always been critical to the operation of the MET and we have been gratified by their commitment over the years. Over and over again we are inspired by their willingness to give their time and energy to assist us in our endeavors.
We gratefully acknowledge the tremendous effort, dedication, and belief in the mission of MET: The creation and production of extraordinary theatre art through the combined voices of a diverse ensemble of professional resident artists who are influential leaders in the community and visionaries in the art of theatre.
Scheduling is on a first come first serve basis. You are encouraged to sign up for shifts for the entire run of the show once they are posted to get your most preferred slots.

USHER/CONCESSION VOLUNTEERS:
Arrival/attire: Volunteers for performances (usher/concession) arrive 1 hour prior to show time. You are always welcome and encouraged to stay and watch the performance. Seating is subject to availability. If a show is full and there is no room, you will receive a complimentary ticket for another performance. If you choose not to watch the show, we ask that you stay until intermission is over. Dress for volunteer ushers is ALL BLACK with a ‘business casual’ feel. The House Manager will distribute volunteer badges and go over all pertinent information upon your arrival.
Duties: Ushers duties include any of the following: stuffing and passing out programs, light cleaning of the theatre, ticket taking and answering patrons’ questions. Concessions duties include: sale of snacks and beverages, making coffee & popcorn (family theatre matinees only), re-stocking inventory, handling and reconciliation of cash. Each shift is approximately 3 hours.
Keep informed: Please feel free to check the Volunteer Newsletter on the website (www.marylandensemble.org). You will find it under GET INVOLVED. This is where I will post announcements about volunteer opportunities…and hopefully, eventually have a volunteer calender posted with volunteer sign-ups and availability of shifts!
WORK CALLS/TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE:
MET Volunteers are sometimes needed for work being done at the theatre including cleaning, building, upkeep, special projects. Those with special skills such as carpentry, painting, sewing or tailoring should make note of that on your volunteer inquiry form and we will add you to our “Backstage e-mail list”!
SPECIAL EVENTS AND OUTREACH:
Volunteers have opportunities to represent MET at fairs and festivals in the community. They help to set up booths, distribute brochures, lead activities, and answer questions about MET. Scheduling for these events happens on an as-needed basis. Age limit determined per event.
MARKETING/POSTER DISTRIBUTION:
MET counts on our volunteers to help us with promotion of all of our exciting programming. Volunteers interested in distributing posters and postcards can stop by the office before the run of each show to pick up a bundle of materials for distribution. Please call Lorrie Lee at the box office (301-694-4744) or e-mail (jherber@marylandensemble.org) to arrange pick-up.
